On Saturday morning, March 11, Fr. Jean-Yves Medidor was abducted by masked gunmen outside the Viatorian Residence Alphonse-Marin in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He remains in their custody today and the kidnappers have made an initial demand for ransom.

Fr. Nestor Fils-Aime, Provincial of Canada, is in Haiti now and is participating in negotiations to free Pere Medidor. Initial negotiations have failed to gain his release, but negotiations will continue.

Please keep Fr. Jean-Yves and the entire Viatorian community in Haiti in your thoughts and prayers as this dangerous and complicated situation proceeds. As new information becomes available we will try to keep you informed.
